Visitors' Comments

We all really love the cottage and its wonderful facilities.  It's been great having a fishing lake so easy to get to so even our toddler could enjoy watching Daddy and Gramps catch fish.  We've all enjoyed both of the warm pools and just love the area.  There is so much to do in Devon when the weather is good, as it has been this week - much much better than going abroad.  Bigbury on Sea, Salcombe North Sands and South Sands are fantastic beaches.  Overbecks above South Sands is well worth a visit - go early to get parked!  We'd love to come again.  Thank you!

Hampshire and Surrey 2010

Had a fantastic time here - second time for some of the family.  Very, very impressed with the house, surroundings, area and location.  Look forward to coming back again.  Thank you.

Glos 2010

Being our second time at The Lodge, it was like coming home - all the comforts and familiar surroundings.  We packed a lot of trips in this time much to our son's dismay (though we did use the pool every day) - Eden Project, Woodlands, Scuba Diving, Kentworld, Becky Falls.  We take away great memories.  Thank you once again for sharing your home with us.

East Sussex 2010

Well, the UK election kept the conversation going!  The Lodge had everything we needed for a really delightful weekend.  The countryside was green and beautiful - just the ticket for we six London girls!!

London 2010

Just about the perfect antidote to exploding Icelandic volcanoes.  Who needs Antigua when the sun's shining here - the beaches are just as good and the beer and the cider are plentiful at the California Inn.  Thank you!!  (Praise indeed from some thwarted travellers!!)

London 2010

We loved The Lodge because it felt like home from home.  The boys really enjoyed fishing in the lake and swimming in the lovely warm indoor pool.  They also loved the wall garden.  Dad took the boys mackerel fishing and they managed to catch our lunch.  We would love to come back again and again.

Cardiff Massive (New Year 209/10)

The house is lovely - a great base to explore this beautiful area.  Dartmouth is a good place to wander and the crabbing is good for the little ones.  The pool is wonderful and the kids just love to jump in.  Will be coming back for sure.  The California Cross Pub is good and has lovely food (6 min walk).  Have fun!

Kent (2009)

Lovely cosy cottage, a real home from home and lovely to come back to.  Diggerland pricey but a different experience.  Spent a lot of time on Dartmoor pony spotting with our horse crazy daughter.  Miniature Pony Centre a big hit.  Enjoyed Kents Cavern, Becky Falls and a climb to the top of Haytor.  Kids loved the warm indoor pool.  Thank you!

Hampshire

We had a great stay.  Beautiful house and surroundings.  The wine tasted very good!  We followed your recommendations for visits and loved them all, but the children did not want to leave Colmer often because they had everything they needed here!  Greetings and thanks.

Wow! Wow! Wow!  The cottage to begin with - so cosy and homely.  The children loved their bedroom and we all found it hard to wake up in the mornings!  Surrounding areas, Bigbury Bay was sooo lovely, mackerel fishing a must.  Thank you for a lovely time - memories have been made as this is such a lovely place.

London (2009)

Simply marvellous!!  We had such a lovely week - just wish it was two.  We love the South Hams.  Salcombe is one of our very favourites the beaches at North and South Sands being excellent for the children and adults alike.  The children had a wonderful time in the pools and playground (their swimming skills have improved so much in one week).  Thank you for a lovely holiday.  We take away some wonderful memories.  Hope to be back again next year.

West Sussex (2009)

We have had a lovely stay in the cottage.  Excellent facilities covering all our needs from our 3 year old grand-daughter to Granny and Grandad.  Beautiful weather, lovely surroundings etc.  Will recommend to friends and will be sure to come back again.  Fishing was great as well.

Berkshire (2009)

We have had a fabulous week.  Your cottage is just perfect and the facilities excellent.  Indoor and outdoor pools a big hit, plus the tennis court.  Highlights of the week: beach at Bigbury, Salcombe, river trip from Dartmouth to Dittisham, Becky Falls.  California Inn excellent.  Unexpected landing of hot air balloon in the field next to walled garden just made our day.  We would love to come again.

Yorkshire (2009)

The cottage is the best in the world.  Best was the Adventure Playground. (Out of the mouth of babes).  Indoor pool was great.  We enjoyed the Round Robin from Totnes to Dartmouth and a ferry trip from Mill Bay.  Thank you for a wonderful holiday - we will return.

East Sussex (2009)

Superb cottage.  Had everything we needed except a waiter!!  Beautiful surroundings with plenty to do on rainy days.  Local pub at California Cross was excellent.  Don't miss Dartmouth or Salcombe - very beautiful.  Thoroughly enjoyable hols.  Will be back!

We have all really enjoyed staying in your beautiful home.  The children loved the pool and games room and were very sad to leave.

London (2009)

This is our second visit to Colmer but first time at The Lodge and we were absolutely delighted with the accommodation and could think of little to improve it.  We had two weeks to relax and enjoy at leisure.  The warm, safe indoor pool brought amazing swimming progress to the children.  Bigbury remains our favourite beach and we also enjoyed Pennywell, the otters, butterflies and steam railway.

London (2009)

With our two year old grand-daughter to entertain The Lodge at Colmer was ideal, very well equipped and comfortable.  The weather was kind to us and Bigbury on Sea was heaven for our toddler as was the indoor pool.  The donkey was very friendly and we had a gorgeous BBQ in the garden.  We had a trip on the Buckfastleigh to Totnes steam train, seeing the otters and butterflies.  Internet was great for information.  The holiday was just perfect.

Kent (2009)

Thank you for a lovely holiday house - we had a wonderful time.  Whilst we were here we went to the zoo, the farm, the swimming pools, the beaches and the aquarium.  We really, really enjoyed staying in the cottage which has been comfortable for all ages and we'd definitely like to come again!

London (2009)

Hi Sue, I just wanted to say that myself and my family had a wonderful stay this past weekend. The Lodge was a wonderful base and we had a great cocktail of fun and relaxation for the three days. We would definitely like to have a return visit so I will keep in touch.

Beaminster, Dorset (2009)

Just would like to say what a lovely holiday we had. The cottage was brilliant. So well equipped and the swimming pool on site was excellent. My youngest recently aged 6, could not swim and would not go past his knees in water, can now swim a few strokes without armbands. We are so pleased. The area was lovely and ideal. So many wonderful beaches and idyllic villages.  My daughter wrote a letter for you but my husband spilt coffee on it!!  It said.... 'The cottage is the best in the world.  The adventure playground is THE best'. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.  It is a great place.

Battle, East Sussex (2009)

I just wanted to send a belated note to tell you how much we loved our visit to The Lodge.  The house is so comfortable and well equipped, truly relaxing, while the whole of the Colmer Estate is also just perfect.  It manages to combine a wealth of very well maintained facilities and spaces with a real sense of wilderness.  Maybe it felt extra quiet as we were there out of school holidays……. In any case, we had a wonderful, relaxing holiday and really enjoyed exploring Devon .

Thank you for all that you do to make it a perfect holiday destination and experience – and we hope to be in touch again in the future.

Winchester, Hants (2009)

Just to say we had a perfect week in your Lodge.  The weather was great all week, with the only spot of rain at 10am yesterday as we left.  There is so much to do on site and round about we were spoilt for choice.  I am sure we will want to visit again in the future.  Thanks once again for letting us stay in such a lovely home in a lovely part of the country.

Bradford, West Yorks (2009)

Upminster, Essex (2009)

So pleased to see the nice changes to the layout and furnishings that you have made to The Lodge - it has given it such a welcome and spacious feel. We loved the personal touches such as the wine, watching the nuthatch and woodpecker feeding from the full birdfeeder from the comfort of the sofa, the made up log fire and plentiful supply of logs etc. Our children got involved in almost everything at Colmer from the games room to the adventure playground, from football to fishing whereas my dear wife landed the prize carp! Thank you once again Colmer, and many thanks to you, Sue and Peter, for a fantastic stay.
Maidstone, Kent

Very impressed with The Lodge! Colmer is wonderful for both children and adults - especially the pool - and we will certainly be recommending it to others.
Worcester Park, Surrey

We have been frequent visitors to the Modbury area but this was the first time at Colmer and we were very impressed with the facilities and grounds. We hope to be back, bringing friends with us, who we know would love it too. Thank you for a very pleasant stay.
Guildford, Surrey

Our second visit and we were not disappointed! Superb lazy days round the pool and short sorties to Hope Cove and Overbecks/South Sands near Salcombe plus several beautiful coastal walks from your excellent guide books. The golf at Dartmouth Country Club made the week for the men and we all loved eating at The Sloop Inn at Bantham. Wonderful! Excellent! Thanks from both families.
Midlands

This is our first time to The Lodge and we have all enjoyed a fantastic week! The 'Big Boys' have played tennis and been fishing every day whilst the little ones have enjoyed a swim in the pool. We found the best cake shop ever in Totnes and had a superb meal at The Ship in Ugborough. The Lodge was very child friendly with its layout and enclosed garden and we will certainly be recommending it to our friends and family.
London

Lovely, comfortable accommodation, very tastefully decorated and furnished - a home from home. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Lodge especially the tennis and the pools. Thanks!
Leicestershire

Both families have had a wonderful time. The beaches at Bigbury were a big hit with the children as were Salcombe and Blackpool Sands. The pools here were lovely and we found the ground wonderful to explore. We will definitely be back next year!
London

We had a brilliant week at Colmer as usual! Love what you have done to The Lodge. We went to the beach most days and Mum and I fancied some pampering at the Dartmouth Golf Club and on our last night we got a lobster box from Salcombe Fishmongers which was gorgeous. Other than that we just chilled out. We are always so lucky with the weather at Easter that we will probably be returning again next Easter. PS Thanks so much for the eggs for the children!
Oxon

We really must thank you for letting us come to The Lodge - quite the nicest accommodation we have ever had and we cannot think of a single missing item to improve it for us - you even fixed the weather! We hardly saw the children and found it difficult to tear them away for any trips out. We do hope to visit you again in the future.
Haywards Heath, Sussex

A lovely place - very comfortable and well equipped. The children thought the walled garden and the games room were excellent. Buckets and spades at Bigbury and crabbing at Salcombe were also fantastic. Will definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you!
Sevenoaks

Yet again a lovely time was had by all. Location is great for getting around and the facilities are very welcome, especially with the younger members of the family. See you again soon.
East Sheen, London

The Lodge and Colmer made for a great base during the wettest week on record - with two hyperactive young boys, this was no mean feat. The Lodge itself is lovely, cosy and comfortable, whilst the facilities at Colmer are ideal for all the family. We enjoyed some great days out to Plymouth Hoe, Dartmeet on the moors and the Dartmouth Regatta and found yet another excellent eating out place, this time in Slapton. We have been to the South Hams many times and never tire of it - we will return!
Dudley, West Midlands

We had a relaxing and enjoyable two weeks here at The Lodge with excellent weather on most days. We found The Lodge to be extremely well equipped and comfortable. We'll certainly be recommending it to our friends. The children's haven was the pool and they loved exploring the grounds. Thank you - we all had a truly lovely time.
